Who are you?
I am an OB/Gyn and a mom trying to help reduce the issue of maternal mortality for black women.
Have you always been you?
I’ve always had a sense of self and purpose in life.
Is there a quote or motto that you live by?
Start somewhere.
What event in life has shaped you most as a person, and how?
Having my daughter. The love is indescribable, the need to help shape a new little life is a great but rewarding task.
You’re an OB-GYN. How does that make you feel about moms everywhere?
I had profound respect for motherhood before becoming a mom and I truly think all moms are just trying to do their best. Being a mother has definitely made me a better physician. I’ve also dedicated much of my time and my voice to the issue of maternal mortality of black women, which is four times greater than that for white women. Every day I work tirelessly to turn this statistic around through a multifaceted approach called TEAM (Timeliness, Education, Advocacy, and Mentorship).
